According to the criminal complaint, Dusold told law enforcement that on the morning of January 19th, Dusold and her mother were "eating breakfast and watching a movie in a bedroom when Dusold went to the kitchen and then heard a thud, and when she returned to the bedroom found her mother face down on the carpeted floor." Dusold told law enforcement that she then dialed 911 and began CPR.

Medical personnel at the scene told law enforcement that "there appeared to be some facial trauma around the victim's eyes as well as blood that was exiting the ears and behind the victim's head." While emergency personnel were at the scene the victim "regained a pulse and was taken to Fairview Ridges Hospital" in Burnsville.

The complaint goes on to indicate that when detectives spoke with Dusold about how her mother was injured she repeated her story about leaving the room, hearing a thud, then coming back to find her mother on the floor. It was during this conversation with detectives that Dusold showed them a "scratch on her bicep" which she then told detectives her mother gave her the scratch.

Dusold recanted her earlier story and decided to tell law enforcement that the story she told was true up until the point that she was coming back into the room. Dusold told police that she put her mother in a "chokehold" after her mother "met her with claws" in the bedroom. Dusold described the chokehold as "squeezing like a python so hard it made her ribs hurt."

The victim was declared "brain dead" after doctors completed a series of tests on her while she was on a ventilator in the hospital. The victim was taken off of life support on January 22nd, and died not long after.
