Northfield Baseball Pitcher No-Hits Faribault
Northfield senior right handed pitcher Ryan Bell gave up no hits in a 5 inning 10-0 win today over Faribault in Northfield. The Falcons used 4 pitchers in the lopsided contest.
The Faribault scorebook gave their team 7 errors in the game and Northfield 5 hits.
Senior right handed pitcher John Palmer started for the Falcons and deserved a better fate. He did not give up a hit in the first inning but the Raiders scored an unearned run when lead batter senior Gunnar Benson reached base on a error, stole second base advanced to third on a strike out throw down to first base and scored on a ground out.
In the top of the inning senior Falcons catcher Jordan Nawrocki walked and was forced out at second on a grounder that Joe Palmer hit. Palmer ended the inning at first base after senior Teddy Calmer flew out to center field.
It was up and down in order for each team in the second inning.
In the top of the third Faribault was retired in order.
In the bottom of the third inning number 8 hitter in the Northfield order junior Coledon Rataj smacked the ball to left field and it went all the way to the fence for a triple. Junior Tate Journell stroked a single to right scoring Rataj. Journell stole second following a 2-0 count to Benson.
Palmer was lifted with sophmore Braedan Mensing coming in to pitch inheriting the 2-0 count and runner at second base. Benson flew out to right with Journell advancing to third after tagging up. Junior Joseph Malecha then walked.
The Raiders executed the delayed double steal to perfection when Malecha took off for second, Mensing threw to second. Journell broke for home and scored easily. The throw home went over the catcher's head advancing Malecha to third base. It was kind of a indication of how the day would go for Faribault.
Senior Ethan Lanthier delivered a RBI single scoring Malecha and Northfield was ahead 4-0.
Hunter Nelson came in to pitch for the Falcons in the top of the 4th inning and more errors prolonged his inning to face nine batters. Three more runs scored and the Raiders enjoyed a 8-0 lead.
In the top of the 5th inning senior Cade McCusker led the inning hitting a grounder that resulted in a error. He advanced to second on a ground out and then tried to steal third base and was thrown out to end the inning.
Senior Hunter Edwards threw for the Falcons in the bottom of the 5th inning putting the 9th and 10th runs on base with walks to open the inning. Rataj clubbed an RBI single. Journell hit a grounder that ended in an error and scored the winning 10th run.
