An Oronoco woman has been sentenced to 6 months in jail and 2 years on probation for her conviction on charges stemming from a deadly traffic that occurred near Cannon Falls about a year and a half ago.

57-year-old Lori Hoefs earlier pleaded guilty to reckless and careless driving, which are gross misdemeanor and misdemeanor traffic offenses, for causing a collision in October 2016 that killed 78-year-old Brenda Travis of Rochester and seriously injured 3 other people. Hoefs admitted she was using her cell phone when she drove through a stop sign at a rural intersection. Four other charges, including two felony counts of criminal vehicular homicide, were dismissed through a plea agreement.

The sentencing order issued by a Dakota County judge allows Hoefs to serve her jail time in Olmsted County and grants her work release privileges. It also requires her to visit the grave of the woman killed in the crash in each of her 2 years on probation.
