The final score was a bit of a wakeup call for Owatonna, losing their football season opener at Rochester Mayo 58-31. But Huskies coach Jeff Williams was quick to find positive aspects to build on during his appearance on the AM 1390 KRFO / 94.7 FM High School Coaches Show Saturday morning.

Williams said, "...I thought (quarterback) Taylor Bogen settled-in in the second half and was very solid in delivering the football around (20-for-32 for 326 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions)...Nick Williams was a great target; over 200 yards receiving, was able to do some good things when the ball was in his hands."

"I thought Ayden Walter did a good job with the ball in his hands...He showed a lot of courage in traffic, going after balls...I thought Owen Beyer (three passes defended) at corner did a nice job; pretty solid on some pretty nice receivers...Eli Spurgeon, two-way player for us, was rock solid (on) both sides of the ball."

Williams wants to see a better job of tackling. Mayo popped several big plays. OHS went with a tight formation and no wide outs to start the game, harkening back to the old days of winged-T football. They transitioned to their more record wide-open look as the game moved on.

Williams said the team is more comfortable with the open set, but wanted to work on the other look as well. Get more game notes and quotes at Owatonnafootball.com, as reported by Jon Weisbrod.
