Owatonna School districts voters Tuesday defeated a referendum to fund a new high school by a count of 5,762-5,642. Results are unofficial.

The ballot question: Should the Owatonna School Board of Independent School District No. 761 be authorized to issue general obligation school building bonds in an amount not to exceed $116,000,000 for acquisition and betterment of school facilities, including construction of a new high school?
