Park Center Pirates defeated defending Class 4A Champion Wayzata Trojans 58-53 Saturday in The Barn on the University of Minnesota campus.

The Pirates were rated #1 by Minnesota Basketball news in their final rankings, seeded #1 in the tournament with a #2 QRF (Quality Results Formula).

The Trojans ended the regular season #1 QRF, ranked #3 and were the #3 seed in the tournament seeded by the coaches involved in the action.

Park Center (31-1) led most of the game against Wayzata (27-5) before things got very interesting toward the end of the contest.

The Pirates led 28-21 at the half.  The win was secured by hitting 9 three point baskets in 19 attempts (47.4%) and making 13 of 19 free throws (68.4%).

Wayzata ended the game with a 4 for 10 performance from 3 point territory and were 7 of 11 from the charity stripe.

Senior 6'5 Cody Pennebaker scored 23 points and had 4 steals to lead Park Center.  Senior 6'4 Ayoube Berthe added 13 points, 7 rebounds.  McDonald Senior Player of Year finalist 6'5 Braeden Carrington had 6 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists.

Senior 6'6 James Spencer had 10 rebounds including 4 on the offensive end of the floor.

Wayzata junior 5'11 Hayden Tibbits finished with 13 points, 3 assists and senior 6'9 Carter Bjerke added 12 points, 11 reboounds, 3 assists.

The Trojans scored 26 points in the paint compared to 16 for the Pirates.  Wayzata collected 32 rebounds to 31 for the Pirates.

There were 2 lead changes, 4 ties in the title tilt.

Park Center saw their 11 point lead with 4:20 left get shaved to 2 points with 37 seconds to go.

Cretin-Derham Hall ran past Eastivew in the third place game 103-95.  Andover beat Owatonna in the Consolation Championship 72-69.
