In a press release from the Northfield Police Department, the pills that were believed to be related to recent overdoses, were found to contain Carfentanil. Carfentanil is a very potent, and potentially lethal synthetic opioid.

The pills had been purchased with the buyer thinking they were getting "oxy", in a small, round, blue pill with 'K 9' stamped into it. "Oxy" is a common nickname for Oxycontin, Oxycodone, or Percocet which are all opioid based pain medications.
