Last year, after the first day at the National FFA Convention, we needed to get back to our hotel. Leaving the convention, there was no shortage of cabs, so we hopped in the first available one. Our driver helped us with our bags and introduced himself. His name was Pirate. ...

Not a name you hear everyday, but his business card also had that name listed. I had never been to Louisville before, and much to my dismay, we didn't have time to do any sightseeing. Our hotel is a solid 30 minute ride outside of Louisville, which actually worked out well because it allowed us to drive through Louisville. Pirate is a friendly guy and very knowledgeable about the area and the latest news. He kindly filled in as our personal tour guide along the journey to our hotel, pointing out the beautiful buildings in Old Louisville, drawing our attention to the river boat cruises and more along the way. You can't beat service like that. As we pulled up to the hotel, it became pretty obvious that cabs did not frequent the area, so we asked Pirate to pick us up in the (very early) morning the next two days, to which he agreed. He was there bright and early the following morning and filled us in on more of the history and interesting features of the Louisville area.

This year as we prepared to travel back to Louisville, Jerry went looking through his files and found Pirate's business card. We decided that being he had been reliable, friendly, and was willing to act as tour guide that we had to call him again. The first afternoon as we got ready to go, Jerry dialed the number and explained that we had ridden with him last year, and were back in town and hoping we could enlist his services once again. Much to our shock, he actually remembered us! Imagine how many people he probably has in that cab and he remembered us! Maybe our accents stood out? Once again, he proved to be an invaluable resource! He got us to and from where we needed to go, with friendly chats, history and current events tidbits,  and much to Jerry's delight was able to take us past the Louisville Cardinal's stadium!

If ever I find myself back in Louisville, you can bet I'll be making a call to Pirate! And after two years of graciously putting up with us, Jerry and I snapped a picture with Pirate!
