The Plainview-Elgin-Millville Bulldogs did what good bulldogs do today in MSHSL Class 3A State Football Tournament semifinals action.  They fetched the ball.

The Bulldogs had 5 interceptions on their way to a 28-6 win over the Annandale Cardinals at US Bank Stadium in downtown Minneapolis.

Annandale had more rushing yards, more passing yards, more total offensive yards but it's the most scores that wins.

Following a scoreless first quarter PEM had a four play 82 yard drive that took 1:11 to reach the end zone.  Quarterback Connor McGuire (6'2, 180, Sr,) connected with Peyton Schumacher (5'10, 162, Sr.) for a 68 yard touchdown pass. Senior Glenn Schmidt  added extra point kick.

About a minute later Schumacher intercepted a pass and scored from 23 yards away.  Schmidt added the extra point to make it 14-0 Bulldogs.

With 25 seconds to go in the half Annandale capped a 6 play 67 yard drive with a Cason Gagnon 6 yard pass to Thomas Westman.  Extra point kick failed making the score 14-6 at the half.

The Bulldogs scored with 4:22 to go in third quarter on a McGuire 2 yard run.  Schmidt kick was good.  Their final score came with 3:24 to go in the game on a McGuire 48 yard pass to Jason Fells (5'9, 160, Sr.)  The two play 50 yard drive was :53 long.

Both defenses were stingy against the run.  Annandale had 84 yards, PEM 65 yards.

The Cardinals threw for 200 yards.  Gagnon was 9 of 21 with a TD and two INT's thrown.  Two other team members threw 3 more interceptions.

The Bulldogs McGuire finished  11 of 19 for 191 yards, 2 scores, 2 INT's.

Total yards were 284 to 256 in favor of Annandale.  PEM scored 14 points off turnovers to 0 for the Cardinals.

The Bulldogs lost to Lake City and Cannon Falls during the regular season.  Avenged both losses in the playoffs.

They will play #1 rated, undefeated Dassel-Cokato in the Prep Bowl 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 27, 2021 for the MSHSL Class 3A State Championship.

The Chargers scored two touchdowns in the 4th quarter to get by the Esko EsKOmos 21-14 in the other semifinal today.
