Homeowners are taking advantage of this nice run of warm, dry weather to do some yard work, gardening and landscaping. I recently hauled in some rock for a little chore at my parents' house and trimmed back some branches and bushes. Both of these jobs required a truck and trailer to haul the rock in and remove the branches. I did this bit of work on Saturday so I could take advantage of the fact that the Faribault Yard Waste site would be open.

One of the things that I always do, when I have to haul a load of anything across town or anywhere, is secure the load with tie-down ratchet straps or bungee cords or any combination of both. I usually tarp a load of leaves, so that they don't disperse around town as I head to the compost site.

I mention this because apparently there a few people out there who don't realize that when you're transporting your yard waste across town, it's a good idea to make sure it's secure. If it's not, it ends up on the road and could cause quite a severe road hazard like the bush I found just south of the corner of Willow and 17th Street Southwest this morning. I didn't leave it there, after I snapped the picture I removed it from the road and threw it onto the boulevard. If I would've had my truck I would've thrown it in there.

By the way, if you're using a trailer to help with your yard work or moving, here are the Minnesota requirements your trailer is expected to meet:
