From the Veseli Ho-Down to Dozinky in New Prague and all festivals in between. A common thread at all of these is some good old fashioned polka music. A Webster-based polka band is getting a closer look this Saturday, April 6th, the Minneapolis /St. Paul International Film Festival. The film “Singin' in the Grain” follows the Eddie Shimota Polka Band for over 40 years!

According to the film's ticketing page, the film was made by Al Milgrom and includes present and past footage from Kolacky Days in Montgomery, New Prague's Dozinky Festival, and the Veseli Ho- Down. Assisting Milgrom with editing and directing was Daniel Geiger.

In the official film description, it is described to be a film about "re-examining America's historic immigrant odyssey". If you'd like to buy tickets to see the World Debut of the 109-minute film in Minneapolis this Saturday head here.

You can watch two small portions of the film that is on Geiger's Vimeo page below. I didn't know anything about St Nick and a day/night for being a troublemaker, and how about that odd St. Nick costume in the bar! Recognize any you know?
