Poor Shooting Dooms Rochester Lourdes at Girls Basketball State Tournament
The Rochester Lourdes Eagles shot 28% from the field in their quarterfinal round 57-41 loss to defending Class 2A Champion Albany Thursday night in Williams Arena on the U of M Campus.
#5 ranked, #4 seed Albany was 19 of 29 from the free throw line and was a plus 13 in rebounds. The Huskies also had 11 points from their bench while the Eagles had none.
Albany took a 22-15 lead at the half in the game that featured one lead change and one tie.
Rochester Lourdes (21-8) will play 6:00 p.m. Thursday, March 17, 2022 against Montevideo (25-4) in Consolation round action on the Concordia St. Paul Campus.
Ella Hopkins achieved a double-double for the Eagles with 17 points and 13 rebounds while playing every second of the game. Caroline Adamson added 16 points, 5 boards and also never left the floor during the game.
Albany (24-5) were led by Kylan Gerads 24 points, 13 rebounds. Alyssa Sand added 10 points, 11 rebounds during the Huskies 44 rebound performance.
Albany will play Providence Academy (27-4) in Semifinals action 6:00 p.m. Friday night in The Barn.
Providence Academy is the top seed in the tournament and defeated Montevideo 68-55 in their opening game at Williams Arena.
The Lions scored 16 points off 21 Montevideo turnovers.
The Thunderhawks were led by Avery Koenen's 25 points, 14 rebounds while playing every second of the game. Teagen Epema added 10 points.
Providence Academy was paced by Maddyn Greenway with 21 points, 5 rebounds and Grace Counts had 19 points, 6 carems. Hope Counts added 12 points, 5 rebounds. Maria Counts accumulated 6 assists in the game.
#2 seed Fergus Falls (25-5) got by Pequot Lakes (29-2) 71-55. The Otters held a 32-25 advantage at the half. Fergus Falls scored 12 fast break points, 22 points in the paint in the victory led by Ellie Colbeck with 25 points, 8 assists,
Tori Ratz had 22 points, 5 assists and Ainsley Hansen added 7 points, 10 rebounds for the Otters. They had 21 assists on 28 field goals.
The Patriots had three players with 14 points. Isabel Larson, Kelsi Martini and Maci Martini.
Fergus Falls faces Minnehaha (25-5) in the other Semifinal game at Williams at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 18, 2022.
The RedHawks ran away from Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial 82-29 while scoring 50 points in the paint and 43 points off turnovers. Five Minnehaha players finished with double digit points led by Sadie Benson with 16 points. The team also had 20 assists on 34 field goals with 5 players achieving 3 or more assists.
The Knights finished the game with one person in double figures, Lauren Cooper had 11 points in the lopsided affair.
Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial plays Pequot Lakes at 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 17, 2022 in St. Paul.
