Yesterday's Power 96 Cool One was "Eyes of a Stranger" from the concept album Operation: Mindcrime by Queensryche. Released on May 3, 1988, their third studio album was a rock opera that followed a herion addict who gets mixed up with a revolutionary group lead by the mysterious Dr. X and is brainwashed into becoming a hitman, falls in love with a prostitute turned nun, kills a priest and... well, you'll have to listen to the album yourself to find out how it all works out.

Operation: Mindcrime is perhaps their best-known album among Queensryche fans, and the group performed it in its entirety during the tour for their 1990 release, Empire. The show incorporated the usually hi-tech lights, video and animation to help tell the story. I was lucky enough to see the show twice while they were on tour. The first time I was in the front row, right in the midst of the actual story itself and the second time I sat in the lower level and got to see everything that had been going on around me during the first show I saw.

By the way, "Eyes of a Stranger" made it to No. 35 on the U.S. Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks.

Listen at 4:35PM today for the next Power 96 Cool One brought to you by Kelly's Auto Parts in Faribault.
