Power 96 Cool One Recap: T. Rex

For yesterday's Power 96 Cool One, brought to you by Kelly's Auto Parts, I decided to play something from T. Rex. Almost everyone remembers "Bang a Gong (Get It On)" from Electric Warrior, this British glam rock band's only real hit in the U.S., which peaked on the U.S. Billboard Singles chart at No. 10. It went to No. 1 in their homeland.

Because of the popularity of this song, I thought I would track down another single that had performed well for them and came up with a track off their The Slider album called "Telegram Sam." This tune made it to No. 1 in the U.K. and No. 67 in the U.S. It has a vaguely "Bang a Gong (Get It On)" feel to it, which didn't surprise me, as the album it's taken from was released less than a year after Electric Warrior.
