Power 96 Cool One Recap: The Fabulous Thunderbirds

Yesterday's Power 96 Cool One band has been around for many years, yet if asked to name one other memorable song by them, besides "Tuff Enuff" you would probably be hard-pressed to come up with one. That's because despite having recorded more than a dozen studio albums through the years, The Fabulous Thunderbirds have only managed to chart a few singles in the Top 40. "Tuff Enuff" cracked the Top 10, landing at No.10 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, and their followup single, "Wrap It Up," came in at No. 50. Both came from their 1986 release, Tuff Enuff, which went to No. 13 on the U.S. Billboard 200. Those two aside, my Cool One for yesterday was the title track from their 1989 album, Powerful Stuff, and it also appeared on the Cocktail movie soundtrack. The album charted at No. 165 on the U.S. Billboard 200. While the single peaked at No. 65 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, it fared better on the Mainstream Rock chart at No. 3.
