Randolph Baseball and Softball Remain Undefeated
The Randolph Rockets baseball and fastpitch softball teams are both in the championship game of their section tournaments Thursday. That means they have to win one more game to play in their respective state tournaments.
The Rockets baseball team had a close affair with a 4-2 win over Mayer Lutheran. The fastpitch softball team advanced to the championship by defeating Goodhue 10-2.
Both teams are in Section 4A which is playing all their games at the high seed. It was set up that way before the COVID restrictions were lifted. That means Randolph baseball and softball will play their championship games at home on the same day Thursday, June 10, 2021.
Faribault Bethlehem Academy has had an amazing run on the road throughout the softball tournament. The Cardinals advanced Saturday with a 13-11 win over the team they defeated in the first round of the tournament West Lutheran of Plymouth.
BA tangles with Goodhue Tuesday in Goodhue. BA Athletic Director Ed Friesen tells us currently the game is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. The winner plays at Randolph for the section title and a trip to the state tournament in North Mankato.
In the fastpitch softball game Randolph exploded with 8 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning after Goodhue had taken a 2-0 lead in the top of the inning. The Rockets added two more runs in the 6th.
Senior Morgan Otte allowed 3 Wildcats hits while Randolph connected 7 times. Otte recorded 14 strikeouts, no walks. Goodhue had 4 errors, Randolph 2. Otte threw 84 oitches, 67 strikes.
Senior catcher Megan Erickson led the Rockets at the plate with 4 RBI on 2 hits. A home run and a double. Chloe Kimmes hammered two doubles. Randolph had 6 doubles in the game.
Torrie Rehder allowed 2 earned runs in the game, 7 hits, 5 strikeouts, 1 walk. Rehder did have some deep counts throwing 114 pitches, 73 strikes.
Rehder and Arianna Thomforde each had doubles for Goodhue.
In the Randolph baseball win the Crusders outhit the Rockets 6 to 4. Mayer Lutheran had 3 errors compared to 1 for Randolph.
The Rockets took a 1-0 lead in the first, added a run in the 4th inning. Mayer Lutheran tied the game with a 2 run 5th inning. The Rockets plated two runs in the 6th to seal the win.
Kaven Blonigen opened the 6th inning with a triple and scored on an error. Joel Gehrke advanced on the error and scored on a passed ball.
Randolph had 3 stolen bases. Nathan Weckop got the win going 6 1/3 innings. He allowed 6 hits, 1 earned run, had 8 strikeouts, 2 walks. Brandon Gerster finished the game with 9 pitches, 2 strikeouts. Weckop tallied 97 pitches, 64 strikes.
Legacy Christian Academy notched a 9-6 win over Trinity at River Ridge to eliminate Trinity. Mayer Lutheran hosts Legacy Christian Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. The winner plays Randolph Thursday. The game is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. with the possibility for a second game.
