The latest COVID-19 report from the Minnesota Department of Health says Rice and Goodhue Counties added one more death each Wednesday.

Rice County Public Health Department Director Deb Purfeerst will be joining our KDHL AM Minnesota program Friday.  Tracy Ackmann-Shaw is the Emergency Preparedness Coordinator for the department also and will join in the conversation.

It is interesting to note the Rice County numbers are higher than the state numbers with 483 total positives reported by the state and 490 by Rice County.  The death for Rice County is the third from COVID-19.  The death in Goodhue County is their fifth.

Rice County Department of Health reports 490 positives, no test numbers are available for the county.  261 are men 229 are women.  Out of the 490 positives 24 have been hospitalized with 10 people ill enough to need intensive care.  419 of the people testing positive were in the Faribault zip code (85.5%) and 61 in Northfield (12.4%) with 10 "other."  The Northfield numbers are for Rice County only.  A portion of Northfield is in Dakota County.

Rice County COVID patients have ranged in age from 2 months to 91 years.

In Goodhue County 71 total positives are reported to date.  An updated community breakdown finds Cannon Falls with 42% of the positives, Red Wing 20%, Kenyon 13%, Zumbrota 7%, Wanamingo 6%, Goodhue and Welch 4%, Pine Island 3% and Dennison 1%.

53% of the positives are ladies and 47% gentlemen.  45 people no longer need to be isolated.  8 people have been sick enough to require hospitalization with 4 still hospitalized.  4 have had serious enough cases to require intensive care.

When examining the ages of patients in Goodhue County 14% have been over 70.  21% have been in their 20's, 21% in their 50's, 14% in their 60's, 13% 40's, 9% 30's and 5% under age 19.

Dakota County also provides a community breakdown of cases.  Burnsville leads the county with 323 positives reported followed by West St. Paul with 201.  Here is the rest of the community breakdown:

1,414 total positives for COVID-19 have been reported in Dakota County with 64 deaths.  The median age of the deceased is 80.  The median age of the 203 people hospitalized is 41.
