Rice County Sheriff Troy Dunn told KDHL the victim of a weekend car accident is in stable condition at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale.

Derek Douglas Balfe, 21, Kilkenny was injured in the single vehicle crash 7:39 p.m. in the 10,000 block of 230th Street West in Morristown Township.

The following description of the accident was included in a Rice County Sheriff's Office News Release prepared by Sgt. Trevor Peterson.

"Rice County deputies were dispatched to a single vehicle crash in the 10000 block of 230th Street West in Morristown Township.  Upon arrival, deputies located a pickup truck in the north ditch of 230th Street West with severe front-end damage."

"The driver, a 21yo male identified as Derek Douglas Balfe was transported to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale via air care helicopter."

"Upon further investigation on scene, it was determined that the pickup truck was traveling eastbound on 230th Street West before it left the roadway and struck a field approach embankment."

"Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this crash, which is under further investigation by the Rice County Sheriff’s Office.  The driver was not wearing a seatbelt."

"North Ambulance, North Air Care, and Morristown Fire and Rescue assisted deputies on scene."
