Rising Costs Causes One Local Brewery To Raise Prices A Buck

If you are a fan of locally brewed craft beer you might begin to see some prices increase. The cost of brewing, bottling, canning, and service have all gone up over the last 18 months, and Owatonna's Mineral Springs Brewery is hoping to offset some of their costs by raising the price of beer a dollar.

The price change went into effect at the end of November, and honestly, a whole dollar price change isn't a lot in the grand scheme of things, but it's a world of difference to a small business like Mineral Springs. The brewery shared its announcement of rising prices on social media.

With regret, but also a dose of reality, we want to convey some pricing changes we’re making at MSB. Over the past two years, we’ve dealt with rising costs relating to almost every aspect of the operation, yet have consistently held firm on our beer pricing. Some recent grain pricing changes tipped the scales, and we feel it’s prudent for us to respond. Effective today, we’ve moved the price point by $1 for most of our brewed products. MSB will continue to absorb credit card fees and taxes, sticking with our flat-dollar pricing. We remain firmly committed to providing the best brewery experience/value around. We greatly appreciate your understanding and continued support of MSB.

The news of the rising prices was met with a level of understanding from fans of the local brewery, many also indicated that the price change wouldn't keep them away or from enjoying some of the locally brewed beer.

The price increase still doesn't cover the cost of credit card payments as the brewery still covers those costs, rather than pass them along to the customer, keeping the prices as flat dollar amounts.
