Second Guilty Plea For Violent Home Invasion

Red Wing, MN (KROC-AM News) - A second man has pleaded guilty to charges stemming from a violent home invasion near Cannon Falls last year.

30-year-old Terrel Schaeffer recently went before a judge in Goodhue County and entered guilty pleas to 2 counts of 1st-degree aggravated robbery and one count of 1st-degree burglary involving a dangerous weapon. 7 other felony charges, including kidnapping, were dismissed through a plea agreement reached on the day his trial was scheduled to get underway.

The St. Paul man and 33-year-old Aldray Young of Inver Grove Heights were accused of barging into the rural residence on May 21st and robbing the homeowners at gunpoint. The couple was left bound in their basement when the robbers left with $2,500 in cash and gift cards, a number of guns, along with with with electronic devices and a variety of other property. Young earlier pleaded guilty to the same charges and is scheduled to be sentenced next month. The sentencing hearing for Schaeffer is scheduled on August 14th.

A key piece of evidence in the case came from a DWI ignition interlock device that was installed in the vehicle used by the pair when they committed the crime. Court records show the device recorded images of both men inside the vehicle with the victim's home in the background and a timestamp that put them at the crime scene at the day and the time the crime occurred.
