The Section One Class AA Girls Basketball Tournament seeds were sent in via email Sunday. With twelve teams in the seventeen team section with double digit wins it would not be crazy for a #8 seed to go to state.

Remember the Sub Sections are gone in Section 1AA.  There is no more east and west and that makes for some long road trips.  The #13 seed Kenyon-Wanamingo Knights (6-17) go to #4 Caledonia (20-6) on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m.

The top seed is Stewartville (21-5) Gold Division Hiawatha Valley League champs.  They have a tuneup game at Hayfield Monday night when they play for the overall conference title.  #16 Triton (5-21) hosts LaCrescent (4-19) to determine who goes to Stewartville on Thursday.

The #2 Rochester Lourdes Eagles (18-8) are the defending Section Champions and host #15 Chatfield (8-17) Thursday night.  #3 Byron (15-10) has #14 Lewiston-Altura (8-17) head to the Bears Cave.

#5 Zumbrota-Mazeppa (19-6) has #12 Cannon Falls (10-16) in the Cougar's Den.  #6 Winona Cotter (18-7) sees #11 St. Charles (14-10).

#7 Plainview-Elgin-Millville (16-8) entertains #10 Pine Island (11-15).  #8 Dover-Eyota (15-11) is at home against #9 Lake City (11-12).

If you believe defense wins championships the #6 seed Winona Cotter Ramblers have allowed 43.3 points per game, best in the section.  Caledonia ranks second 46.7 and Cannon Falls is third 48.8.  They are the only teams to give up an average of under 50 points per game.

The top offfensive teams in the section are Stewartville (67.3), Zumbrota-Mazeppa (66.4) and Lourdes (62.7).  The only other team averaging over 60 points per game is Byron (61.1).

Kenyon-Wanamingo Head Coach Brent Lurken said on the K-W girls coaches show Saturday Byron was his favorite if Ayoka Lee is healthy.

Zumbrota-Mazeppa is my sleeper.  They have size and athleticism so watch out.
