With Easter just a short time away, you start thinking about coloring eggs and making sure the Easter Bunny has some varieties of candies to pass around. I recently found a couple of good ideas to help with some of that.

One of my favorite candies around the holidays is almond bark. And my twist on it then is to crush up some candy canes and add to the mix. Gives it a holiday look and nice minty taste.

For Easter, here's a neat idea. Melt some white chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat it until it begins to melt, and then stir until completely melted. Pour onto a parchment paper-lined baking sheet. Scatter some pastel M&M's and some colorful candy sprinkles on top, then let cool until firm and break into pieces. You can also dip strawberries or cookies into the chocolate for an extra treat.

For coloring eggs, instead of using the dye kits, you can use Kool-Aid. Hard boil the eggs and let them dry. In plastic cups, combine two packages of Kool-Aid with 1.5 cups of water. Stir until completely dissolved. Place the eggs in the cups and let stand until the shells are as dark as you like.

This year my grandson, who will be 15 months old by Easter, will be able to be part of the fun since he is walking and might even be able to help a little bit. I hope it's a blessed and Happy Easter for you if you celebrate it.

Have fun!
