A CEO of a Make A Wish foundation chapter has pleaded guilty to embezzling tens of thousands of dollars. Make-A-Wish is a non profit charity that helps sick children and their families, and is known for bringing tremendous opportunities to kids and granting wishes. The Associated Press tells us that they have 60 chapters across the United States. A recent discovery of missing funds led to the arrest of A CEO of a Midwest Chapter.

Former CEO of Make-A-Wish Iowa Jennifer Woodley, 40, has admitted to making unauthorized charges on a foundation credit card. She also gave herself unnaproved salary increases and bonuses. She covered up those expenses by making false entries in to Make-A-Wish foundation records. Soon after Woodley became the Make-A-Wish CEO in 2019 she began the embezzlement. An internal compliance review in 2020 found "financial irregularities" according to the Associated Press. Make-A-Wish fired Woodley and started the criminal investigation.

The charges she's pleaded guilty to are all felonies, including two counts of first-degree theft, and one count of fraudulent practices. The amount of the embezzlement totals nearly $41,000.

The plea agreement will likely result in a sentence of give years of probation, fines, and restitution. Woodley's lawyer, Nicholas Sarcone, says he wil ask for a deffered judgement at sentencing. If that is granted by a judge this case would be expunged from her record as long as she completes her probation and other terms of her sentence.
