COVID-19 has affected plenty of people in different ways. Maybe you lost your job or had your hours cut. That means you have less money coming in and you might not be able to put as much food on your table as you would like to. Here are two different events in our area where you can get plenty of food at no cost.

The first is a weekly food distribution service that happens each Friday during the month of September. Boxes of food will be delivered to the following locations at select times:

Buckham Memorial Library 12:45 - 1:30pm
Four Seasons Apartments 1:45 - 2:30pm
Evergreen Estates 2:45 - 3:30pm
Cannon River Mobile Park 3:45 - 4:45pm

Inside the boxes will be rice, lentils, beans, oil, cereal, all-purpose flour, tomato sauce, and sweet corn. Look for the Hiawathaland bus for distribution.

The other upcoming free food event will take place on September 23rd at the LeSueur County Fairgrounds. Residents who come will receive three boxes of food that will contain produce, mixed dairy, and meat (chicken & pork). This event will be a drive-in where volunteers will place the boxes of food in your trunk or tailgate. It will run from 10 - 11:30am.

If you need help with food, there isn't anything to be ashamed of in seeking help. No one should go hungry, but it is one of the largest issues we see in Minnesota. According to Feeding America "In Minnesota, 461,200 people are struggling with hunger - and of them 161,880 are children. 1 in 8 children struggles with hunger. People facing hunger in Minnesota are estimated to report needing $240,696,000 more per year to meet their food needs."
