The New Prague post office has ceased operations until further notice due to what is being reported as safety concerns. During the closure, New Prague postal operations have been moved to the Belle Plaine post office, 14 miles away.

The New Prague Times reported that there was a notice posted on the front door to the post office this morning. KSTP-TV states that mail and packages that were in the New Prague facility when it was closed are unavailable to be retrieved until an environmental specialist deems the building safe for employees.

The USPS website shows a news release from yesterday that has a quote from the local Postmaster Jorg Lewis:

“The safety of our employees and customers is paramount. So we have temporarily suspended operations at this location. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our customers.” - Jorg Lewis

New Prague's post office is a leased facility and USPS stated that they will be working with the building owner to mitigate the concerns swiftly.

The Belle Plaine Post Office is open from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9-11 a.m. Saturday. Post Office Box Holders and people who have received notices of items to be picked up at the post office can do so at the Belle Plaine office with their photo ID.
