Storms Produce Large Hail and 50 MPH Winds West of Rochester
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The hot and moist air that has covered the region for days provided plenty of fuel for fast developing storms just west of Rochester today.
The storm activity produced ominous looking clouds in downtown Rochester, but the heavy storms hit areas on the west edge of the city and to the west, where the National Weather Service issued several severe thunderstorm warnings for western Olmsted County and all of Dodge County beginning around 1:30. There were reports of hail as large as 2-inches in diameter near Rock Dell in southwestern Olmsted County and Kasson saw wind gusts of almost 55 miles hour as the storms produced multiple waves of heavy rain and gusty winds.
Parts of Rochester also received hail.
The National Weather Service also issued a flood advisory for Dodge County into the early evening because of significant ponding of water on roadways and ditches filled with water run-off from the storms.
