The Barron County Sheriff’s Office says the deadly crash occurred around 7 p.m. less than 10 miles south of Rice Lake. A press release indicates the 16-year-old boy was driving the vehicle at a high rate of speed when he lost control, causing the vehicle to roll several times.

The agency says two 14-year-old girls and a 15-year-old girl riding in the vehicle were airlifted from the area. Two of the teens are considered to be in critical condition while the third passenger suffered what were described as serious injuries. An update from Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald indicates one of the 14-year-old girls died from her injuries Tuesday morning.

The 16-year-old driver suffered minor injuries, the news release says. He was taken into custody on suspicion of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance.
