Last week we shared with you the great news that the new owners of Jerry's Supper Club in downtown Owatonna were donating the mural to the Steele County Historical Society. The SCHS put out a call to fundraise the $4,000 they thought would cover the removal and transportation to the historical society, that however is now not the case. In a recent post, the SCHS now is looking to raise $18,000 to get this project completed.

The post from the Historical Society this morning notes that "As many of you know, sometimes construction work can take a twist and costs can rise. This, sadly, is the case right now."

The post to social media is putting out a call for financial assistance in order to save this piece of Owatonna history. The post goes on to state how the project costs have ballooned from the original thought $4,000 would cover it.

"The costs of removing the mural have increased as the wall has been found to be load bearing and needs to be reinforced. Lastly, the original bid for the hanging of the mural did not take certain structural concerns into account and now has to be hung from the ceiling in order to handle the mural’s weight, further increasing the cost."

The current bid that the Historical Society has received "includes everything from the removal, the transport, and installation."

If you'd like to support this project, a link to the online fundraiser is here. So far the project has raised a little less than $6,000 towards its new goal of $18,000.
