Treacherous Driving Conditions Found Across Much of Minnesota
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The slippery conditions that developed yesterday evening across southeastern Minnesota and the rest of the state contributed to numerous traffic crashes.
The State Patrol is reporting, statewide, there were at least 130 traffic crashes during the 12 hour period that ended at 10 o’clock this morning. 8 8 of the crashes resulted in injuries but none were serious and there were no fatalities. The State Patrol also responded to over 200 reports of vehicle spinouts and 5 jackknifed semi-trucks.
While driving conditions are expected to improve in the Rochester area this afternoon, another coating of icy precipitation and snow is expected to develop in the late afternoon and evening.
Travel conditions could become treacherous starting in the Twin Cities and moving to the north where a winter storm warning is in effect through noon on Sunday. Many areas are predicted to see around a foot of new snow in waves today and tonight, while some spots in the Duluth area and along the North Shore of Lake Superior could end up with almost 20-inches of snow and blizzard conditions.
