The Triton Cobras scored 2-1 and 5-1 victories over Kenyon-Wanamingo in a Hiawatha Valley League doubleheader at John Kunz Memorial Field in Wanamingo Monday night.  Sophomore Derek Lilledahl threw a two hitter in the first game and senior Levi Smith allowed just one Knight hit in the second contest.

Kenyon-Wanamingo freshman Owen Hilke gave up three hits in the first game but two of his three walks scored.  Lilledahl had no walks in the opener.  Hilke struck out 8 and hit a batter.  The lefty threw 80 pitches, 48 for strikes while taking the loss.  Lilledahl had four strikeouts and tossed 74 pitches, 52 for strikes.  Hilke breezed the first time through the order striking out 6 of the first nine batters faced.  Triton senior shortstop Brady Essig walked to lead off the fourth inning, stole second and was sacrificed to third on a but by Smith.  Lilledahl hit a single scoring Essig.

In the top of the fifth inning the Cobras had a two out rally started with a walk of the number nine hitter junior Isaak Knutson.  Then back to back singles by Drew Kelly and Essig and Knutson scored.

In the bottom of the fifth Garrett Grove achieved his second hit of the game for the Knights connecting on a single.  He eventually scored on a ground out.

Held Bus Service of Kenyon players of the first game were pitcher Hilke and Garrett Grove.

In the second contest Triton senior Levi Smith threw 72 pitches, 53 for strikes while picking up Triton's 5th win of the season.  The only hit he allowed came off the bat of Hilke in the fourth inning and his pinch runner Riley Horn eventually scored the only Kenyon-Wanamingo run of the game on an error in the fourth inning.

Senior Jack Beulke pitched the second game for the Knights and scattered 5 hits over the four innings.  He didn't get a lot of help in the field.  My scorebook had six errors for Kenyon-Wanamingo.  Beulke threw  71 pitches , 50 for strikes while recording 4 strikeouts and 0 wallks.

Triton scored their first run after Jacob Monson led the inning with a single and advanced to second on an error.  He would score on a Cole Rollins ground out.

The Knights scored their only run in the fourth when Hilke clubbed a two out single and his pinch runner Riley Harn would eventually score on an error.

In the bottom of the third inning the Cobras would erupt for 3 runs thanks to a pair of hits and 3 Kenyon-Wanamingo errors.  Number nine hitter Knutson started the inning getting on by error.  Kelly followed with a bunt single.  Essig was safe on a fielder's choice when Beulke threw his bunted ball to third to get lead runner Knutson.  Smith collected an RBI, Monson had an RBI single and Triton was up 4-0.

The Cobras would add a run in the bottom of the fifth when Knutson was again safe on an error to start the inning.  Kelly executed his second bunt single.  Essig would be safe on an error and Knutson scored.

Line totals in the second game were:

Triton           5 runs   5 hits   1 error   6 runners left/5 in scoring position

Kenyon-Wanamingo    1 run    1 hit     6 errors   2 runners left/both in scoring position

Held Bus Service Knights of the second game were Beulke and Hilke.  Hilke made an outstanding field play at first base and collected the only hit for Kenyon-Wanamingo in the game.

Triton is now 5-1 and Kenyon-Wanamingo 1-6.

The Knights host Randolph Tuesday at 5:00 p.m.   Triton's next game is Thursday at Goodhue at 5:00 p.m.

KDHL will broadcast the Kenyon-Wanamingo softball game with Randolph in Wanamingo beginning 4:15 p.m.
