Wanamingo Jacks Dominate Opener, Faribault Lakers Lose at Home
The Wanamingo Jacks opened their Twin Rivers League season with a 6-1 win over the Waseca Braves. The Faribault Lakers played the St. Paul Hops at Bell Field and fell 15-7.
The Jacks had terrific pitching performances from starter Brady Anfinson and Alex Roosen with a save.
Anfinson allowed 3 hits over 6 innings with 6 strikeouts and 4 walks. Roosen gave up 1 hit in 3 innings, struck out 4 and walked 1. The only Braves run scored off Anfinson in the 6th inning when Wanamingo had 4 runs on the board.
Faribault pitching gave up 18 hits while the Lakers tallied 5 hits in their home debut. Four different hurlers entered the game for Faribault. Jim Roberts gave up 8 hits and 8 runs in 3 and 1/3 innings. He struck out 4 and walked 4. Zac VanThomme logged 2 and 2/3 innings with 4 hits and 2 runs given up while fanning 1 and walking 2 batters. Blake Borwege threw 2 innings of 6 hit ball with 5 runs scoring, 4 earned and 3 strikeouts, 1 walk. Joe Palmer finished the game with a scoreless no hit inning and 1 strikeout.
At the plate the Jacks smacked 11 hits. Eric Swiggum, Alex Roosen and Dylan Craig each had 2 hits with a double each. Aaron Bauer was the designated hitter and collected 3 RBI on a pair of hits. Sean Wingfield had a RBI and so did Swiggum.
Matt Lane had the big hit of the game for Faribault when he clubbed a 3 run double in a 7 run second inning that gave his team a 7-3 lead. Porter Sartor was the only Lakers player with multiple hits. He also had a double and RBI.
The other Faribault hits were stroked by Tyler Francis and Palmer.
Faribault hosts New Prague in a DRS League game at 2:00 p.m. Sunday. Wanamingo has no home games scheduled because their field has not been approved by the Minnesota Baseball Association for use. Their next game is Monday, July 6 at Haddox Field in Bloomington against the Bandits at 7:30 p.m.
