Firefighters Give Warning About Dangerous Tool Used in Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Illinois to Stay Warm
I was cleaning up our office area the other day and next to my desk were two space heaters.
I have no idea whose space heaters they are but if I start to get cold while I'm writing stories or on a Zoom call, I know I can just plug that baby in and get toasty warm again. How we do that though is what prompted an urgent warning from firefighters.
Cold weather reminder.
Do NOT plug space heaters into power strips or extension cords.
Plug space heaters directly into the wall outlet.
Powers strips are not designed to handle the high current flow required by a space heater and can overheat causing a fire. - Shoshone Fire District #1 Firefighters
I know these firefighters are from Idaho but this reminder truly is important for everyone to see. Safety first!
