In what is a somber anniversary, today marks the 75th anniversary of the D-Day invasion at Normandy. To mark this year's remembrance some 90-year-old veterans added to their memories from that hallowed ground where so many lost their life. Around 200 veterans some from WWII some from other wars recreated the jump from 1944, some using replica parachutes.

The jump took place yesterday ahead of the ceremony that took place at daybreak which marked the time when the first troops landed. Today across the world remembrances are taking place at the military cemeteries where countries buried their fallen citizens who bravely jumped or landed on those beaches 75 years ago.

Some D-Day Facts:

  • More than 150,000 Allied troops landed on the beaches code-named Omaha, Utah, Juno, Sword, and Gold, carried by 7,000 boats.
  • D-Day was planned with the help of meteorologists
  • The Normandy invasion was not a one-day affair; it raged on until Allied forces crossed the River Seine in August
