A Wayzata police officer was killed after being struck by a vehicle on Highway 12 Friday afternoon.

Beth Freeman, the motorist suspected of hitting and killing Wayzata Police Officer William Mathews Friday afternoon, had a revoked license and a history of traffic violations. She is being held in the Hennepin County jail and facing a probable vehicular homicide charge. According to court documents, Freeman had her license revoked in October 2016 as someone inimical to public safety, meaning she's had a history of moving violations.

Matthews  was outside of his vehicle  when he was struck. He was transported to a hospital with two other squads accompanying the vehicle.  He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo was at his public swearing in ceremony and asked for a moment of silence for the officer.
