Who Will ESPN Tab As Minnesota’s ‘Celebrity’ College GameDay Picker?
The cat's out of the bag. No not that cat.
ESPN's College GameDay is coming to Minneapolis for the Big Ten West winner take all game between the Golden Gophers and the Badgers. The show features a pick'em segment as it travels across college campuses, and there is always a 'celebrity' picker that relates to the state or city they are visiting.
Since GameDay has never been to Minnesota/Minneapolis before it has some people wondering who will be the 'celebrity' guest picker. I'll give you my top-5 guesses as to who it will be in no apparent order.
1. Bud Grant - The former Vikings Head Coach is still pretty active for being in his 90s. He just bagged a huge deer, and he is so tough he generally refuses to wear sleeves in the coldest of temps. Bud is still symbolic of the Vikings, but he also attended the U of M and was a three-sport athlete, in football, basketball, and baseball.
2. Lindsay Whalen - She is the current head coach of the Women's University of Minnesota basketball team, and she is synonymous with the U of M. Lindsay cemented her legacy as one of the all-time greats to play to the U of M as she holds Minnesota career records in points, scoring average, games in double figures, free throws made and free throw percentage.
3. Bob Dylan - He attended the U of M for just a short period of time 1959-1960 but is a Minnesota icon and 2016 Nobel Prize winner. Dare I say the Gophers chances at a Rose Bowl bid are blowin' in the wind?
4. Tony Dungy - He's a Super Bowl-winning head coach, and played Quarterback for the Golden Gophers in the mid-70s. Dungy is an unapologetic Gopher football fan. His schedule could allow it as he works as a commentator for Sunday Night Football on NBC.
5. Ric Flair - WOOOOO! Flair briefly attended the University of Minnesota before he traded in his books for being a Stylin', profilin', limousine riding, jet flying, kiss-stealing, wheelin' n' dealin' son of a gun! His slogan of "TO BE THE MAN, YOU HAVE TO BEAT THE MAN!" would be a perfect fit for this game. The Nature Boy lived in Edina for a portion of his childhood and at the age of 70 is still as exciting as it gets.
