Westbound traffic on West Bridge in Owatonna has been closed at Interstate 35 since early May. Initially, the word didn't get out so well. I frequently exit off I-35 southbound at Bridge. And everyday I was seeing a vehicle make an illegal u-turn when the driver realized he was limited to only going south on the freeway.

Signage has improved since the first days with access to the industrial area and businesses through Hoffman Drive/Old Highway 14 after a short jaunt on I-35. An update on the West Bridge Reconstruction Project from the City of Owatonna shows an estimated completion date of October 30. All entrances and exits to I-35 remain open during the work.

When finished, a new roundabout will be in place at West Bridge and 24th Avenue. Work at the time of this update indicated removal of aggregate and stockpiling of roadway materials was wrapping up. Storm sewer and culvert work was up next.

The project has a number of phases and detour routes will change over the course of the work. The current phase should wrap up around June 11.

Owatonna is seeing major roadwork and other construction projects starting up.

Speaking of roads, don't be like this guy who was pulled over for sleeping-behind-the-wheel while driver in excess of 80 miles per hour. Or like this driver, who hit a moose.
