A 27-year-old man is now facing charges after an alleged gun pointing incident on Sunday in Owatonna. According to the Owatonna Police Department, Devin Sawyer is being charged with 5th-degree possession (felony), carrying/possessing a pistol without a permit (gross misdemeanor), and possession of over 1.4 grams of marijuana in a motor vehicle (misdemeanor).

According to the Owatonna Police Department's weekly newsletter, Just The Facts, Sawyer was involved in a gun pointing incident at Colonial Manor where the victim indicated to police that Sawyer was 'staring down the victim' while holding a gun outside of the driver's side window.

On April 24, 2022, city officers were dispatched to an incident in the area of Colonial Manor referencing a male holding a handgun outside his driver’s door window, while staring down the victim. Officers located the suspect vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. The driver was identified as Devin Sawyer.

It was determined Sawyer did not possess a conceal and carry permit. During the search of the vehicle, a handgun was located along with a small amount of marijuana wax, THC vape cartridge, zip lock bags, and a digital scale. Two other jars were located containing 35.8 more grams of marijuana and a metal grinder.

Devin Sawyer was charged with 5th-degree possession (felony), carry/possess pistol without a permit (gross misdemeanor), and possession of over 1.4 grams of marijuana in a motor vehicle (misdemeanor).

Minnesota sentencing guidelines for the 5th-degree possession, a felony, is punishable by up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
