The 3rd District Sub State American Legion Baseball Tournament began this weekend.  Four of the five teams from League G are in the Elimination Bracket meaning they lost a game and won a game.

Goodhue is the only team from the league to be eliminated after losing their opener to Holy Family 12-2 in six innings and falling to Cleveland in their next game 15-4.

Kenyon-Wanamingo rolled in their first game 13-3 in six innings then lost a heartbreakere to Sibley East in 8 innings 10-9.  The Knights will play fellow league member Medford in an elimination game 3:30 p.m. today in Arlington.

Medford lost their first game 7-1 to Rockford and in the District 3 Legion brackets received a bye in the next round because a team dropped out of the tournament.

That dropout led to Plato, the #2 seed out of League E receiving a first round bye also.

League E Champion Holy Family had to play in the opening round of the tournament being played in Arlington and Green Isle which is home to Sibley East.

Cannon Falls defeated Waterville-Elysian 1-0 their first game then lost to Norwood 8-3.  The Bombers will play Cleveland 1:00 p.m. today in Arlington.

So Cannon Falls and Kenyon-Wanamingo could play each other at 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 23, 2021 if they are both victorious today.

Randolph coaches and players told me following their losses in St. Cloud during the MSHSL State Baseball Tournament they wanted to get to the American Legion State Baseball Tournament.

They've got a huge task ahead to accomplish that goal.  After winning their opener 4-1 over Cleveland the Rockets lost a close game 7-5 to Holy Family.

There are two classes in American Legion baseball.  Four classes in high school baseball.  So the road to state is much tougher in Legion play.

Randolph plays LeSueur-Henderson in Green Isle at 3:30 p.m. today.

There are four teams still in the winner's bracket that don't play until Friday. Sibley East (League A Champions), Norwood (3rd place League E) play each other Friday, July 23, 2021 in Green Isle at 4:30 p.m.

Holy Family (League E Champions) will play Plato (League E 2nd place) Friday, July 23, 2021 in Arlington at 3:30 p.m.  That's what the bracket says.

There are a lot of towns represented at this tournament.  Do you think any are on the Minnesota list?
