An Austin man was charged Friday with second-degree murder in connection with the death of his mother.

34-year-old Russell Spoors was arrested last night after Austin Police were called to the home he shared with his mother around 8 p.m. and found 60-year-old Susan Spoors had been stabbed several times. She was rushed to St. Marys Hospital, where she died from her injuries about an hour and a half later.

The criminal complaint indicates she told a member of the medical team that her son was responsible for her wounds before she passed away. The charges indicate the stabbing occurred during an altercation between the two over some pills sought by the son.

Spoors is due back in court next Thursday.
