Blooming Prairie Stuns No. 4 WEM [Feb. 12 Scores]

The No. 13 Blooming Prairie girls basketball team "got a HUGE win tonight against the No. 4 team in Class A on the road," wrote BP coach John Bruns in his recap Friday night. The Awesome Blossoms had a stellar second half to rally for a 43-42 win in Waterville against WEM. BP surrendered just 12 points after halftime and took their only lead of the second half with eight seconds left.

"We trailed most of the first half and had a few defensive breakdowns that led to five first-half three's for WEM. We made some nice adjustments at halftime and played outstanding defense. That defense allowed us to creep back in the game behind 16 second-half points from Megan Oswald. The last two were with eight seconds to go to give us our first lead of the second half."

Oswald had 25 points and 14 rebounds. Bobbie Bruns scored nine and had five assists and four steals. Allison Krohnberg had four points and eight rebounds.

BP (7-1 overall, 6-0 Gopher Conference) hosts Kenyon-Wanamingo Tuesday. WEM is 5-1 in league play now.

The Owatonna boys basketball squad also turned in an impressive second half to pull away from Winona 70-49 Friday night at OHS. The Huskies led 36-32 at the break and outscored the Winhawks 34-17 in the second half.

The Huskies forced about 20 turnovers. Evan Dushek had 20 points and 18 rebounds. Brayden Williams scored 18. Payton Beyer also had 18 points with a couple of dunks along the way.

It was senior night for Owatonna. The Huskies go to Albert Lea Tuesday.
