According to NOAA, the likelihood that Minnesota will experience a good old fashioned winter has increased.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is the parent organization of the National Weather Service, and issues seasonal climate outlooks -- the latest for winter 2022-2023 covering the months of December, January, and February.

Last week NOAA updated their winter predictions, and it calls for colder temperatures and more snow across Minnesota.

Essentially, the graphic below shows that NOAA feels this winter in Minnesota is leaning towards above normal precipitation.

Colder than normal and snowier than normal.

In Owatonna, the average high temperature in December is 26, in January it is 22, and 28 in February. So, we're leaning colder than that.

On average, December is the snowiest month of the year in Owatonna, typically seeing 12 inches. An average January delivers 7 inches, with another 8 inches falling in February. So, we're leaning snowier than that.
