Just like 2020, Owatonna will open their high school football season against Rochester Mayo. The teams actually ended their seasons against one another as well. OHS won each of those match-ups. The Spartans return quite a bit from their section runner-up team including the top passer from the Big Southeast District. The Huskies are a little green, without much varsity experience back for the five-time defending section champs. The Friday, September 3 game at 7 pm can be heard on AM 1390 KRFO / 94.7 FM and on the free downloadable app.

Blooming Prairie takes a two-season long winning streak, and their returning starting quarterback, into the opener Friday at nearby rival Hayfield. Kat Kountry 105 FM presents the action with a 7 pm kickoff.

Medford makes the trek southeast to play perennial power Rushford-Peterson. The Tigers graduated several top players including some linemen. They do bring back several starters including their quarterback and one of the district's top running backs.

NRHEG is breaking in a new starting signal-caller as they host Kenyon Wanamingo Friday at 7 pm with the action to be heard live on The Mighty 920 KDHL. Triton faces Lourdes at Rochester Regional Sports Stadium Friday.

Look for a return of student fans to the stands, pep bands blasting the school song and the reopening of concession stands.
