Faribault American Legion Post Featured on KDHL
We are going to be educated about all the things they do at the Faribault American Legion Post 43 this morning at 9:30 a.m. on AM Minnesota. Longtime Faribault Legion member Ray Sanders will be joined by Club Manager and Head Cook Maggie Clendenin. I honestly don't know if we will be able to cover it all.
The Faribault American Legion sponsors a baseball team in the summer, youth scholarships, Legionville/State Patrol, Boys State/Nation, Scouting, Flag Etiquette, Veterans Home Support and more. They have donated their facility for countless non-profit events. The website states the 4 pillars of the American Legion:
- Advocating strong national security
- Supporting Veterans and their families
- Mentoring youth
- Promoting patriotism and honor
On the third Sunday of each month a flag-raising ceremony is held to honor those that are fighting on the front line of Afghanistan "so that we may continue to live in a free society."
The ceremony starts at 1:00 p.m. sharp and is open to the public. There is a reading of those killed in action for the current and previous months. Old Glory is raised in their honor as well as those that face the enemy on a daily basis.
"Whenever possible, if requested, we will fly the flag over Post 43 in honor of an individual or specific unit that is currently serving in-country.
If you can't tune in at 9:30 this morning we should have audio of the program on this page by mid-afternoon. You can access this page at www.kdhlradio.com.
