Faribault Baseball Falls to Hutchinson in Section Opener
The Faribault Falcons made the long bus ride to Hutchinson today and started their playoffs with a 11-0 five inning loss. The Falcons were the #7 seed and Tigers the #2 seed in the 8 team Section 2AAA Tournament. Faribault will play Worthington Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. in New Ulm in an elimination bracket game in the double elimination tournament. The Trojans fell to #3 seed Mankato West 8-2.
Hutchinson used four different pitchers with no pitchers accumulating more than 30 pitches so all arms are on deck for the winner's bracket game Wednesday against Mankato West in Hutchinson Wednesday. Senior Dan Van De Steeg started the game and went two innings with one hit allowed and 4 strikeouts.
By the second inning Hutchinson was up 8-0 thanks to a 7 run second inning. The Tigers chased senior Faribault pitcher Joe Palmer after 1 and 1/3 innings. The Tigers had 5 hits, 8 runs, 7 earned before sophomore John Palmer pitched 2 and 2/3 innings with 4 hits allowed, 3 runs, 2 earned and collected a strikeout and a walk.
Faribault had two hits in the game. Joe Palmer and classmate Kipp Bonde were the only two Falcons to collect hits.
Hutchinson swept a doubleheader from Faribault at Wartburg College during the regular season by scores of 13-3 and 22-5.
Tigers first batter sophomore Billy Marquardt had two hits and junior Russell Corrigan also tallied two hits in the game. Hutchinson finished with 9 hits and 0 errors. The Falcons had 3 errors in the game.

Faribault 0 runs 2 htis 3 errors
The Falcons fall to 3-17. Hutchinson is 16-3, only losses to New Ulm, Dassel-Cokato and Delano.
In other games top seed Mankato East defeated Waseca 10-0 and #4 seed Marshall got by #5 seed New Ulm 6-2. The Blue Jays and Eagles will play before Faribault and Worthington Wednesday night in New Ulm.
