The Faribualt Falcons and Austin Packers hooked up in a classic Big Nine baseball game at Bell Field Thursday night.  The Falcons won 3-2 on a walk-off balk in the bottom of the 8th inning.  High school baseball has 7 inning games.

Jake Wetzel scored the winning run when he came charging down the third base line, the Austin pitcher was startled and balked.  Awarding Wetzel to score the winning run.

Jordan Nawrocki, Teddy Calmer and Hunter Nelson combined to allow 3 hits in the game while Faribault connected for 12 hits off two Packers pitchers.

Tayghan Hovland went 7 innings allowing 9 hits with no walks and 10 strikeouts.  Bundy took the loss while allowing 3 hits in two thirds of an inning.

Junior Hunter Nelson threw the final 4 1/3 innings for the victory with 6 strikeouts and 7 walks.  He did not allow a hit.  Nelson also had 2 hits in the game.

Teddy Calmer connected for 4 hits, Cade McCusker had 2 hits.  Other Falcons with hits were Jack Knutson, Braeden Mensing, Joe Palmer.

Faribault is still without a number of players due to COVID protocols.

The Falcons are scheduled to play a doubleheader at Albert Lea Saturday.  The first game first pitch is Noon.

Faribault is 1-1 after losing their opening game Saturday against Mankato East 5-0.
