The Faribault Falcons boys hockey team cruised to a 5-1 win over Albert Lea at the Faribault Ice Arena Saturday night.  A Tiger whiffed at the puck resulting in a turnover that Zach Siegert took on a breakaway for the first goal 18 seconds into the game.

It set the tone for the contest.  At 5:12 Zack Slinger got his thirdd goal of the season thanks to an assist from Luke Vinar (1).  The Falcons were controlling the action.

First period shots on goal were 10-7 in favor of Faribault.  Sophomore goalie Maclain Weasler had some impressive saves.  Faribault kept Albert Lea's leading scorer Blake Ulve from getting many quality shots.

The Falcons scored :54 into the second period when Zach Siegert got his second goal of the game, ninth of the season following an assist by junior Grady Goodwin (3).

Junior Keaton Ginter scored 2:43 into the second period thanks to an Oliver LInnemann assist (5).  It was Ginter's 4th goal of the season for Faribault.

Shots on goal in the second period were 10 to 5 in favor of the Falcons who enjoyed a 4-0 lead.

Faribault would score their last goal of the game 4:42 of third period when Goodwin got his 4th goal of the season unassisted.

Albert Lea spoiled Weasler's shutout bid when Logan Hacker (5) took a shot from the point on a power play and Joseph Yoon (4) redirected the puck which bounced into the net at 6:08 of the final period..

The Tigers came into the game with the best power play percentage in the Big Nine 46.2%. The Falcons penalty kill (80.6%) ranked 4th in the league.  Albert Lea was 1 for 3 on the powerplay and Faribault 0 for 1 but that opportunity came in the final minute of the game when they already had the contest fully in hand.

Our Malecha's Auto Body of Faribault  Crunch Time Faribault Players of the Game were Weasler and Siegert.  Goodwin was awarded the Cashwise Foods and Pharmacy of Owatonna Delivery of the Game with his goal and assist performance.

The win avenged a 3-1 loss in Albert Lea last month and gives Faribault a 5-4 Big Nine record, 5-5 overall.  The Tigers fell to 4-5 in the conference and 4-6 overall.

The Falcons travel to Mankato West Tuesday, host Winona Saturday.

Albert Lea is at home against Winona Thursday then at Austin Saturday.

In other Big Nine action Mankato East got by Northfield 6-4, Winona blanked Red Wing 4-0, Rochester Century defeated John Marshall 4-0.  In non-conference games Owatonna fell on the road to Minnetonka 5-0 and Rochester Mayo edged Dodge County 4-3.
