Faribault Girls Basketball Still #20 in Rankings

The Minnesota Basketball News preseason girls top 20 had the Faribault Falcons at #20 in Class 3A in their December 1 polls.

It is the same ranking they had in the preseason poll.

Since then they have defeated Big Nine Conference Co-Champion from last year Rochester Mayo 30-24 and Mankato West 70-64. Both games were on the road.

Mankato West is rated #17 in Class 3A after beating then state #8 rated Waseca.

The Scarlets lost to Faribault the day the polls came out.

Waseca dropped to #19 after their loss to Mankato West.

Northfield opened their season with a 46-45 win over Red Wing and the Raiders are rated #7 in Class 3A. Red Wing on the strength of winning their home tournament with victories over then #1 Class A Goodhue and Wasconia, is #8.

Goodhue was dropped from #1 to #2 after their loss to Red Wing despite a season opening 52-39 win over River Falls, Wisconsin. Lyle-Pacelli is now the top ranked Class A team in Minnesota girls basketball after starting the season 3-0.

The Shamrocks rolled past Dover-Eyota 76-46, Zumbrota-Mazeppa 56-41 and Mabel-Canton 76-19 to start their season.

Hayfield is still #3 in Class A. Their wins over Minneota 70-60 and Tracy-Milroy-Balaton 66-45 to open the season were completed after the poll was released also.

Tracy-Milroy-Balaton is rated #14 in Class 2A.

Byron Moved from #8 to #6 in Class 2A without playing a game. They open their season at Hayfield on Tuesday.

Rochester Lourdes dropped from #3 in the preseason rankings to #11 in Class 2A after falling to #4 Class 3A Holy Angels 72-37 and #6 Class 4A Cretin-Derham Hall 67-51.

The Eagles beat Kenyon-Wanamingo in a rematch of last year's Section 1 Class 2A title game 63-28 and rolled by Chatfield 65-36 in their last two games.

In Class 4A Hopkins is still on top with Eastview and Lakeville North remaining at #2 and #3. Farmington is rated #19.
