The Faribault Falcons girls hockey team is tied with Warroad atop the state in team scoring at the Thanksgiving break with 49 goals.  Faribault has played 7 games, Warroad 8 (6.12).  That means on a per game basis the Falcons are the best scoring team per game in Minnesota.  Faribault was supposed to have 8 games completed but their Tuesday game in Austin was postponed due to weather.

The statistics include all teams regardless of what Class they are in.  The Warriors are 4-3-1.  Faribault is 6-1.  Warroad's opponents have been much stronger.  Losses to Minnetonka 9-4 on the road, Elk River 6-5 and Wayzata 5-4 at home.  The tie came against Chaska 3-3 at home also.

The Falcons lone loss was to Northfield 3-0 on the road.

Hannah Corneliusen of Warroad leads the state individually in scoring with 27 points.  Olivia Mobley of Breck is next with 26 points.  Faribault senior Olivia Williamson is tied at 5th with 19 points.  It is interesting to note Corneliusen has 5 power play and 1 shorthanded goal while Williamson has 1 shorthanded assist among her points according to the Minnesota Girls Hockey Hub.

Falcon classmate Abigail Goodwin is in the top 20 in scoring also with 16 points.  Faribault senior goalie Mikayla Bohner is listed tied for 8th in save percentage (.940) and is 10th in the state in Goals Against Average (1.14) just ahead of Northfield sophmore goalie Maggie Malecha (1.17).  Malecha is 4th in save percentage (.954), she has 3 shutouts in 6 games.  Bohner has 2 shutouts in 7 games.

Faribault has four girls with double digit points after 7 games showing there are other people who can bury the puck in the net.  Six girls are averaging at least 1 point per game.

First year Head Coach Mike Dietsch has emphasized speed with the team because the Falcons are blessed with some very good skaters.  I asked Goodwin and Rylie Starkson during a recent visit on our Faribault Coaches Show at Bashers who the fastest skater on the team was.  They said no end to end times have been taken, but speculated senior Haley Lang.

The Falcons next game is Tuesday at home against Mankato East (3-2).  The Thursday game at home against Rochester John Marshall will be broadcast on POWER 96 Radio, 95.9 FM and  The best way to listen is to download the FREE POWER 96 app on your favorite mobile device.
