Faribault Lakers Roll Over MudCats in Prior Lake

The Faribault Lakers traveled to Prior Lake today and came home 16-4 seven inning winners. The Lakers clubbed 16 hits, MudCats had 6 hits in the lopsided affair.

Both teams scored 3 runs in the first inning. Faribault lead hitter Blake Langerud singled to start the game. Danny Pierce got the first of his 4 RBI after smacking a double to score Langerud. Joey Grote singled placing runners at the corners with no outs.

Nate Rost singled scoring Pierce. Grote advanced to second base. After the first out was recorded Mitch Johnson singled to right scoring Grote. Rost went to second base.

Nate Rost started the game on the mound for Faribault and was greeted with 3 hits from the first three batters. All singles, plating a run. The second out resulted in a sacrifice fly RBI.

Following another single resulting in the tying run scoring there was a walk.

Nate Rost went to first base and Nick Rost came in to pitch in the second inning. Nick went 4 2/3 innings with no hits allowed, 1 unearned run, 2 strikeouts, no walks. Nate allowed 4 hits, 3 earned runs with 3 strikeouts, 1 walk.

Joey Grote threw 2/3 of inning with 2 hits, 0 runs, 0 walks, 1 strikeout. Nate Rost threw 39 pitches, 22 strikes. Nick Rost had 61 pitches, 43 strikes, Grote threw 9 pitches, 7 strikes.

Faribault scored 3 runs in the 4th inning, another in the 5th, 6 runs in 6th inning and 3 runs in 7th.

Dylan Valentyn walked to open the 4th inning. Jack Jandro executed a bunt that resulted in an error allowing Valentyn to reach third base and Jandro to go to second.

With one out Pierce hammered his second double scoring two runs. With two outs Nate Rost hit a double scoring Pierce.

In the top of the 5th inning Prior Lake's new pitcher started with a walk to Mitch Johnson. Nick Rost hit a single to right. Valentyn was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

With one out Langerud hits a sacrifice fly scoring Johnson.

In the top of the 6th inning Grote gets things started with a single. Grote advanced to second base on an error. Nate Rost walks. Grote and Rost move up a base on a ground out by Matt Lane. Johnson gets an RBI single. Nick Rost has an RBI single.

Valentyn walks after Johnson and Nick Rost moved up a base on a passed ball. The bases were then loaded. Jack Jandro has a RBI walk.

During the Langerud at bat a wild pitch scores Nick Rost with the other base runners advancing to second and third. Langerud grounds out but Valentyn scores.

Pierce hits an RBI single making the score 13-3 in favor of the Lakers.

In the top of the seventh inning Ryan Archambault enters the game for Nate Rost and walks. Matt Lane strokes a single. Porter Sartor walks to load the bases. Nick Rost clubs a 2 RBI single. Jack Jandro hits a RBI single to make it 16-3.

In the bottom of the seventh inning Prior Lake scores an unearned run. Nick Rost struck out the first batter of the inning. Then there was an error.

Joey Grote was brought in to pitch and struck out the first batter he faced. Back to back singles allow a run to score but the game ends early with the 10 run deficit rule.

The Lakers are now 16-10, 12-7 in D-R-S action and play Wednesday against the Rochester Royals at Bell Field in a FOX 9 Townball Series game. 7:30 p.m. first pitch. It's also the opening night of the Rice County Fair.

The MudCats host Union Hill Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Their webpage has them with a 9-11 overall record, they are 9-9 in league play.

Faribault is in third place in the league. The top 5 teams go right to the Region 3C Tournament. St Patrick can clinch the top seed with a win or a Union Hill loss.
