Faribault Public Schools Responds To Gov. ‘Stay-Home’ Announcement

Yesterday afternoon Gov. Walz announced that beginning on Friday all non-essential Minnesotans should 'stay-home' for the next two weeks to help curtail the coronavirus/COVID-19. Part of the Governor's announcement was that schools would also go to an online-only/distance learning model through the month of April. Faribault Public Schools responded with their plan for educating area children, and also how they will still be providing meals and other items of need during this time period. 

A portion of the message from the Faribault School District's Facebook Page is below:

"Today, the governor confirmed that distance learning will begin March 30 and students will continue to learn from home through May 4. Our current plan is for teachers to return May 1 and May 4, and to welcome students back to the buildings on May 5.

We will do everything we can to answer your questions and help you navigate this unprecedented situation. We are working to make our phone systems more efficient and make it easier to access a real person when you call your child’s school. Our teachers and administrators will do everything they can to be flexible and accessible while guiding your child through the distance learning process.

We will continue to provide free breakfast and free lunch for students 18 years and younger and we will continue to offer free childcare for Tier one and Tier two workers. Faribault Public Schools serve all kids and all families regardless of what school they go to. Free meals are available from 7 a.m. to noon at the Faribault Education Center and from 10 a.m. to noon at Buckham Library, Evergreen Estates, Cannon River Mobile Park, Four Seasons Apartments, McKinley Early Childhood Center and the new Discovery School location at 924 First Street Northeast.

We know there is a huge learning curve for schools and families as we implement distance learning. We also know that we need to be flexible with students. Our staff has been working incredibly hard to make sure this will be a smooth transition for our students and families.
